એક નાનકડો પથ્થર ઇતિહાસનાં અદભુત રહસ્યોને ખોલનાર ચાવી બની શકે?
હા, તેનું નામ છે રોઝેટા સ્ટોન (Rosetta Stone).
ઇજિપ્તની નાઇલ નદીના કિનારે હજારો વર્ષ પહેલાં મિસર (ઇજિપ્ત)ની સભ્યતા વિકસી હતી.
દુનિયાની એક પ્રાચીનતમ સંસ્કૃતિ તે નાઇલ કિનારાની મિસરની સભ્યતા.
નાઇલ સંસ્કૃતિના મિસર (ઇજિપ્ત)નો પ્રાચીન ઇતિહાસ ચિત્રલિપિઓમાં સચવાયેલો છે. દાયકાઓ સુધી આ ચિત્રલિપિઓને ઉકેલવા પુરાતત્વવિદો મથતાં રહ્યાં.
ઇસ 1799માં ઇજિપ્તના ભૂમધ્ય સમુદ્ર કિનારા પરથી એક પથ્થર હાથ લાગ્યો. ભૂખરા-કાળા રંગના આ પથ્થરની ઊંચાઈ સાડા ત્રણ-પોણા ચાર ફૂટ, પહોળાઈ અઢી ફૂટ, જાડાઈ માંડ એકાદ ફૂટ! સાડા સાતસો કિલો વજનના આ પથ્થર પર ત્રણ ભાષા-લિપિઓમાં લખાણ મળ્યું – ક્લાસિકલ ગ્રીક લિપિ, પ્રાચીન ઇજિપ્શિયન ડેમોટિક લિપિ અને ભારે અટપટી અને વણઉકલી મિસરની ચિત્રલિપિ.
આ પથ્થર રોઝેટા સ્ટોન તરીકે ખૂબ જાણીતો થયો.
તેની ચિત્રલિપિને ઉકેલવા પુરાતત્વવેત્તા-ભાષાશાસ્ત્રીઓએ મોટા પાયે પ્રયત્નો શરૂ કર્યા. 1822માં એક બ્રિટીશ વૈજ્ઞાનિક તથા બીજા એક ફ્રેંચ વિદ્વાને રોઝેટા સ્ટોનની ચિત્રલિપિને ઉકેલી. આમ થતાં મિસર સંસ્કૃતિની ચિત્રલિપિઓનો ભેદ ખુલ્લો થયો.
પછી તો નાઇલ કિનારાની પ્રાચીન મિસર સભ્યતાનાં ઇતિહાસનાં કેટલાંયે રહસ્યો ખુલ્લાં થયાં. * **

I am sorry to write in English as I am not too familiar with Gujarati keyboard and feel more at home in English though I understaned and comprehend Gujarati quite well.
I have extensively about world History, Liguistics, philosophy, Genetics etc and have been living in USA for more than 40 years. The script on Rosetta stone was mainly deciphered by Champollion who was a Frenchman scholar of classical Greek language. The name Rosetta stone is a Eropean name which came from Rashid which was the name of the town in Egypt where this stone was discovered.
As far as Brahmi script is concerned, it did not arrive in India until around 300BC (which is why all of emperor Ashoka’s edicts are not written about Vedic religion but about Budhdhism because when for about first 15 years of Ashok’s rein he was a follower of Vedic religion
( I donot want to say he was Hindu because the people of his era did not call themselves Hndus but were called Aryans- the term Hindu strangly enough is given to people of India by Persians, Moghals and British much later- it not mentioned in any Vedas, Puranas or Gita) Ashok’s edicts are written in Kharoshti which is a script which came from Gandhar (Afghanistan area in 300 BC)

આ બાબતે સુરેશદાદાએ પ્રશ્ન કર્યો હતો કે ભારતનો કોઈ રોઝેટા સ્ટોન કેમ નથી? એ બાબતે મારે કહેવું હતું કે, 8000 વર્ષ પહેલાંની ભારતીય લીપી અને ભાષા બ્રાહ્મી લીપી અને સંસ્કૃતને મળતાં હોવાનું વીદ્વાનો કહે છે. તો પછી, રોઝેટા સ્ટોનની જરુર શા માટે પડે?
